What these guys are doing is mild compared to what the best are doing in
various "pro" competitions in the US. That's scary stuff.

But I doubt this is nearly as dangerous as American football or ice hockey...

If the bike hits the rail at a right angle, it ain't gonna' slide up the
rail, although the rider might ... hopefully with no more than a few
bruises so he can get up and try again.

Substitute "correct angle" for "right angle".

Or more like "exactly the correct angle".

This is not the best shot the day (I think that goes to Tailwhip,
posted yesterday), but it's sort of a follow-up to Monday's Mike on
the Rail:

http://knarfdummyblog.blogspot.ca/2015/06/the-mount.html

I was trying to explain to Jack why the stunt is hard, and maybe
seeing how he has to mount does visually what I couldn't textually.

As you can see the left peg of the rear wheel will be on the rail. To
get the right peg on the rail Mike has to bring the front wheel way
above the rail and land it "just right" so that right peg slides up
the rail.

The end result is the rider sliding up the rail on his axle pegs, not
using the pegs on the same side as usual, but on either side of his
bike:

http://mondociclismo.blogspot.ca/2015/06/mike-on-rail.html

There's a name for this stunt but Mike hasn't answered my email request

Hope you enjoy (the picture, if not the prolix post). Comments always

Re: PESO - The Mount

2015-06-17 Thread frank theriault
The bike's moving longitudinally (in the same direction) to the rail.
So the bike never "hits" the rail, just those big "pegs" sticking out
from the wheel axles.

cheers,
frank

Re: PESO - The Mount

2015-06-17 Thread Jack Davis
Actually I had this process in my imaginings. I wasn't thinking
in terms of pegs. Now tell me, if the bike hits the rail at a right angle, how
does "the right peg slide up the rail?"
If you've had enough of this Frank, just tell me so and I'll leave it there.
:-))
Thanks!!

There's a name for this stunt but Mike hasn't answered my email request yet.

Hope you enjoy (the picture, if not the prolix post). Comments always welcome.

Cheers,

frank
