No longer have the camera, but it was a Brownie Starmite (1962). Back then, developing a roll of BW film (12ex) cost $.50. Re: PESO -First Camera - George's posterous
As a kid, I had a Brownie. In college, I used only a Polaroid. My first real camera was the Asahi Spotmatic I purchased in the Far East in 1966. Re: PESO -First Camera - George's posterous
My first SERIOUS camera was a Mamiya 500TL. A year later, I got a Pentax Spotmatic (1969). Both cameras gave me what I thought were mediocre results. Until I discovered that the weakest link in my system was a cheap Durst enlarging lens. I switched to a Schneider Componon and the quality of the images increased by about 500%. It took me 6 years to discover the issue. The first camera that was mine was an old camera that belonged to my uncle: http://www.etsy.com/listing/55887756/vintage-kodak-duaflex-ll-twin-lens I wonder if this is why I'm comfortable composing on an LCD screen. RE: PESO -First Camera - George's posterous
We've done this before, a few years ago, but I guess it won't hurt as there are many new subscribers. My first camera was a Voigtlander Vito CD, fixed lens rangefinder with a selenium meter. Gave me very good results and sparked my interest in photography so that I then bought a Pentax SV: stayed with a Pentax as my main camera ever since, although as I mentioned in another thread, had a Fujita ST705n(?) when my SV was stolen. And, because the Amateur Photographer magazines I was reading in the late 60's always said a photographer needed both rangefinder and SLR types, and 35mm and 6x6 formats, I later got a Rolleicord and a Fed4L - the latter I still have, and despite it's being Russian, cost the same new as the second-hand Voigtlander, is still going strong: it's built like a tank. Re: PESO -First Camera - George's posterous
We've done this before, but I can't resist commenting. I had a wacky great aunt who was a photographer and artist. She gave me an old box camera then an old twin lens. My dad came back from WWII with an army surplus 2 1/4 x 3 Speed Graphic. Then he bought a Retina 3c, both of which I got to use on a limited basis. About '78(?), I looked for my own camera. I wanted aperture priority, so the Canon AE1 was out. Nikon was too expensive. Olympus (OM1??) was cheaper but still pricey. The Pentax ME was perfect, then a Super Program, then a PZ-1, then I found this list. Tens of Cameras and Lenses later, I still have Pentax. Regards, Bob S.
