I usually prefer that the front fruit of these types of shot be the
one(s) in focus, but for this shot your focus point works. I find the
areas in the shadows a bit dark, but other than that quibble, I like
the shot.

I'm (quite literally) salivating at the sight of these!

Nice one, Rick!

Sorry Rick, but this one doesn't make it for me. The light is a little
too harsh to reflect what I *think* you were after, and the position
of where it strikes in the frame and where the focus point is set seem
off-balance as a composition.

I like the way the patch of sunlight highlights some of the fruit and
the shallow depth of field works well. But perhaps the foreground is a
bit too much out of focus.

RE: Peso Peaches Corners in summer

2008-07-17 Thread Bob W
Old buildings benefit from candle light very often. There is a book by
Junichiro Tanizaki called In Praise of Shadows which discusses this in
a Japanese context, but I was in a Tudor building on Tuesday this week
in which some of the rooms were lit naturally and the effect of the
shadows on how the oil paintings look was very interesting. Seeing
them brightly lit does not necessarily enhance them. Remember that
these buildings and paintings were never expected to be seen any other
way.

Alex, not to dissuade you in any way, however it seems to me you got
distracted why taking the shot. It feels almost like you set out to
photograph the peaches but then saw something else, the spoons or the
vessel where the peaches are and then finally someone pushed your hand a
bit too far to the left.

I am sorry, but I'd rather you showed us other attempts you made on the
same subject. This one does not seem to work very well.
