Re: Pentax Q preview

2011-07-13 Thread Steven Desjardins
I think good enough IQ is a reasonable goal for many cameras. We on
this list are not representative on this issue. There was always the
feeling that APS-C was a stepping stone to the ultimate FF cameras,
but in reality APS-C is the new standard and FF is what medium format
used to be. Smaller cameras like the CSCs have already gotten a
reasonable chunk of market share mostly because they are smaller. My
wife has an Optio with the same sensor as the Q and I'm often amazed
at how good the IQ can be. There is clearly a market for the finely
made pocket camera and the Q will always have the size advantage,
which may be nearly as important as IQ for some.

Now if they make a massive 15mm/f0.75 lens for it, count me in. I have a weird

Re: RE: Pentax Q preview

2011-07-13 Thread Steven Desjardins
I'm not a strict advocate of the lomography approach, but I appreciate
the spirit. Always carry a small camera with sufficient IQ that is
always at the ready. I have a pixel peeper personality but that's
because I've always taken mainly macros and stills. If I lived in an
urban environment I might be all over this camera. The only real
thing I would miss is the upper end of the iso scale, but I also grew
up thinking 80 was impossibly fast.

Hey Frank, what do you think about all this? You've always been a
get the shot and hope the IQ is good enough kind of guy and you've
made that work in a most admirable way over the years. As an
archetypal lomographer, I could see you as the perfect test pilot for
a Q. Of course, I don't make those decisions for the corporation. ;-)
