Eek! No one who likes those ugly Spotmatics with the fat mirror boxes
deserves a brochure of a gorgeous camera like the SV! :) I'd love to
have it if you don't want it, and would gladly cover postage and a bit
more if you want. I'm going to be putting up a web page for PSP's
(pre-Spotmatic cameras) eventually, so that will come in handy then. If
anyone wants to make a scan of it in the meantime, I don't have a problem
with that. I've got about 7 PSP's myself, including an SV that I got from
Fred, so I'd love to have it. :)

It's actually quite old, but very interesting. As a prominent feature of
the camera (lens) is in bold type stressed the action of this black
anodised focusing ring is silky. It's like a hot knife cutting through
butter. That's already starting with Pentax philosophy :) And the SV
doesn't have that ugly self-timer lever on front - it's hidden on top!

It's a great self-timer! And the focusing is so much like butter...

What's the reliability of SV's shutter? I am still looking for a nice
old Spotmatic to use with my Carl Zeiss Jena lenses (2.8/20 1.8/80
CZJ just deserve something better than my broken-meter Praktica with
its positive but LOUD shutter). What's the synch speed? X? I can't
 find it in the brochure.

The Spotmatics do have a sturdier shutter mechanism, but I've never had
any problems with any of my PSP's. The sync speed is X, which is 1/45.

On Ebay they call them unused old stock. As far as I know there
is only one company in the world currently making flash bulbs.
There is/was supposed to be another one in China but I have
never found any information on them. Megaflash in Ireland does
not make FP rated bulbs as far as I know.

Now about that "unused" thing they are always saying on Ebay.
Maybe I could advertise, "Collector's special. Once used flash
bulbs? These flash bulbs were used only one time with a genuine
Speed Graphic in a real Graflite flashgun by a actual
photographer. Bid early and bid high, these will go fast to
serious collectors.

Once upon a time, you could buy a long duration "focal plane" flash bulb. I
guess you still can, but I haven't seen one in a long time. Anyway, the X was
for electronic flash and the FP for focal plane bulbs.

I was wondering how can I select the X if it's between the 1/30 1/60 - is
there an intermediate click-stop there, or I have to resort to 1/30?

Frantisek
and thanks for all the info!

On the models I'm familiar with, there's an extra click-stop there
(gotta remember to account for it when adjusting shutter speed by
touch). I would expect the same on the SV.

Hi, Bob. It's at Amazon. Try:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/907653702X/o/
qid=984354984/sr=8-1/ref=aps_sr_b_1_1/102-0754547-1220910

with all of that cut and pasted to one line of unbroken text.

If that doesn't work, run a search for "gerjan pentax" and it will come
up.

Thanks for the info, Chris. Only trouble is, even
though they show it in their inventory, they don't
"actually" stock it...only in their "virtual" stock
does it exist. It took two weeks to discover this
fact. They would not backorder it either. I guess I
need to do a new search and try calling an actual
person to verify the tranaction.
Cheers,
Bob

That's odd. I ordered mine on January 22, and it arrived on February 14
through surface shipping. So I'm assuming that they had it in stock
then. Wonder if I took their last copy. :) And what do you mean, they
won't backorder it? You mean that they won't order a copy from the
publisher for you??? Isn't that their job?
