Hello Again

Bob Walkden rightly wrote "Prestons in Harrogate is the best provincial
shop"

Sadly this shop is closing down. Large posters are displayed on the windows
announcing a "retirement sale". Some Pentax items on display include a
FA28-70/4 (now rather difficult to find new), and various lenses for the
6x7.

Guess what - two doors away from Prestons a new camera shop has opened.
Naturally it is Jessops!

Closer to home (for me) in Stockport, Cheshire, there were four individual
camera shops until quite recently, including one "swop shop" specialising in
nothing but used gear. One of these was Jessops. All four shops held a good
selection of used cameras and lenses.

Firstly Jessops took over two of the other shops, so there were three
Jessops and the swop shop. Next the owner of the swop shop became ill, the
shop has now been closed for 6 months or more with little evidence that it
will re-open. Jessops' next step was to close down one of their three
Stockport shops.

So Stockport now has two branches of Jessops, and no other dealers. One of
the Jessops shops has recently stopped selling used gear.

In Altrincham a long-established small specialist dealer now has a brand
spanking new Jessops directly opposite. Which one will survive?

Jessops recently won the Practical Photography dealer of the year award.
