Re: Printers! Printers! Printers!--and other Tidbits!
I'm still using a 2880 and live it. I consider printing to be part of the process, so I always print my best shots, usually as 12x18. When it does, ill replace it with the latest wide carriage model. I think the current version is the 3880, but I don't get heavily into the model differences until I must. Paul via phone > On Dec 20, 2015, at 6:44 PM, Christine Aguila wrote: > > Thanks, Paul! Thanks, Paul! Yep, saw those rebates, very attractive. Good to know about wireless setup. I forgot about RedRiver papers & web site. Thanks for the reminder. I'll be keeping the r2880 until it's officially dead, but I'll have to get up to speed on new printer technology. I half thought about using an online service when my printer dies, but after thinking it through, I decided there would be no way that workflow would work with my photography, craft, and school needs. Having no printer in the house would be very, very odd and make completing projects difficult, so it's not really an option. Re: Printers! Printers! Printers!--and other Tidbits!
Christine - I've had an Epson R2000 since shortly after they were introduced and am quite satisfied with the prints it produces. The R2000 is till available and as you're award they've introduced the "P" series of photo printers. Epson has some good rebates running until Dec 31. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/BuyEpson/rcDetail.jsp?UseCookie=yes&cp=C&coid=-13586 Red River Paper has some good printer evaluations. http://www.redrivercatalog.com/infocenter/articles/index.htm I've not read a lot of complaints about this, but my R2000 has a glitch that I've had to be deal with a couple times. The EPROM on the mother board picks up and retains some spurious voltage that causes it to go through the head cleaning cycle with each print job you send to it. If this happens, you have to unplug the power cord and leave it unplugged for at least four hours - it's gotta be unplugged, just turning the power switch off won't fix it.. The problem dissipates and you're good to go again. Godfrey recently bought one of the "P" series Epsons - the P600, I think. I'm sure he'll be chiming in with some thoughts about it. The wireless printing is handy. I have three Epsons running all wirelessly - two multi-function printers and the R2000. They're easily set up and run without a hitch. Printers! Printers! Printers!--and other Tidbits!
Hi All: My R2880 had a fussy moment the other day; the rollers wouldn’t grab the paper. We duked it out, I finally won, and obedient behavior has resumed! Yea! But, the experience did inspire a quick look-see on what Epson has on offer these days. To my surprise, the R3000 has been discontinued (Already? Didn’t that just come out?), and I learned there’s the new Epson SureColor P600 Wide Format Inkjet Printer, which looks like it would be a replacement for the R2400, R2880, and R3000. Anyone have any buzz on the new Epson P600—and, for that matter, the direction of photo dedicated printers in general? I see wireless printing is big now, which would be fun to have if I wanted to print straight from my iPad Air. Has anyone done a lot of wireless printing? Thoughts? Frustrations? Recommendations? I printed some photos on Velvet Fine Art paper just now and had no problems. Per Epson’s recommendation, I’ve ordered some cleaning sheets to give those rollers a good soothing, so they don’t act up again. They should be here within the week. Will be interesting to see if they do any good. Not much shooting lately—just work related stuff. I did have a few shots of the high altitude balloting project published in DePaul University’s Science and Health alumni magazine titled Scientia. The production quality of the magazine was a little disappointing (paper and printing quality), but the editor was really nice, and it was very sweet of the magazine team to ask. I have shot a little with my iPhone 6. For a good long while I’ve thought it odd shooting with the phone—just doesn’t feel natural—very awkward, but I am a bit more comfortable with it lately.
