The red dot is there on the side of the bayonet. If you follow the vertical side of the letter 'P', you can just barely see it (or its reflection) right under the edge of the flange. My 28-80 2.8 Tokina zoom is built like a tank and is better with film than with digital. The zooms that really seem to have gone up in quality (optical and build) are the Sigmas and Tamrons, IMO.
