RE: Australian Pentax Market Penetration
I agree, although Photo Continental in Brisbane has a titanium finish Pentax zoom sitting on the shelf at the moment. Unfortunately, not many people working in camera stores seem to know much about the equipment they are selling. I have heard the base grade Canon being recommended over the Pentax MZ-50 on the basis that This is the brand that a lot of professionals use. And I have heard a salesperson lose a sale because a customer felt the cost of a telephoto lens put the equipment out of their reach, when a secondhand Pentax lens at $150 (Australian) sitting on the shelf would have made the choice for them and clinched the deal. Thank God for my son in Hong Kong, otherwise I would not have been able to justify buying my recent acquisitions. Things are different here in Canada. When I bought my MZ-S in Edmonton, the salesman said, Would you like a 31 Limited with that?. Here in Victoria, Kerrisdale Camera call themselves Pentax specialists, and they have a big transparency of an MZ-S on their lighted storefront sign, while Lens Shutter has a picture of an MZ-5n on a lightbox in their window. There's even a Victoria Pentax Club, although it's not very large. Could this be Pentaxia? Pat White - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Kevin: Quoted from Dave O'Briens message... I saw one on Hong Kong side: Pacific Place in Admiralty. I don't remember the name of the store, but there's only two likely places in there. Possibly Universal Audio/Video. It's on the ground floor in there. Good hunting! I would hazard a guess that, out or the 35% of the pentax 35mm, 90% would have been point-and-shoot, If the SLR figure was taken out, i somehow doubt Pentax would fare well against Nikon or Canon Quite agree. When I asked about the Z-1p few years ago in Melbourne downtown, none of the dealers were willing to spend much time with me, until I showed them the FA*24/2 and the FA*85/1.4 that they had never seen. They didn't even know these lenses had existed. regards, Alan Chan _ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
