Worse still, you may be interrupted by phone calls pushing duct
cleaning services just when you were about to get that
once-in-a-lifetime snoozing cat shot.

And I wonder how much crapware you'll have to clean off of it to make
it useable?

At first I thought it odd that it would come with photos already when
you buy it, but then I realized that may be the most brilliant

Nikon's matrix metering works by comparing the picture the camera's pointing
at with it's database of pictures, and setting the exposure thingies the
same as the model picture. It's a small step from there to simply copying
the model picture when you press the shutter, so that you always get a
brilliant picture each time.

Literally taking. When you press the shutter, it uses your GPS coords
to search the 'net for images taken nearby, finds one then downloads
it and presents it to you.

This would be the first camera that can get great shots even if you
leave the lens cap on.

As an option, it would ignore the GPS and randomly download a sunset,
baby, HDR'ed landscape or swimsuit shot. And upload it to Flickr where
you'd get 5,000 views in hours.

I can't imagine why I'd want a camera operated by Android OS. I don't
even want a camera powered by iOS ... I bought my iPhone because it's
a great little communications device, the fact that it also includes a
decent camera is secondary.

The solution to getting hacked is to turn off network connectivity.

If you really resist the temptation of playing around with this camera,
the interface may surprise you by its ease of operation. That's of
course, provided the programmers at Nikon did their job rightly.

Given that most of the cell phones today are smart phones or even super
phones and given that most of the folk around have at least one such
device, the problem of computer virus in the camera shouldn't really
bother anyone...

IMHO, naturally, for sake of avoiding any misunderstanding.

On the fly panoramas are a useful app.

I know people like to be curmudgeons on this list (and other places),
but there are things that I'd love to be able to do with photography
that isn't really possible or practical with dSLRs. Not everything
photographic needs to be ultra-serious and old-fashioned.

And, contrary to what some people think, not everyone that uses a
smartphone is using instagram and cheesy digital filters.

I agree somewhat. And the last thing I'd be worried about is my camera
getting a virus. Having had 5 Android phones in the family in the last
3 years, there's never once been a virus issue. I'd be more worried
about a legitimate OS update changing or breaking a feature.

I don't often takes pictures with my phone to begin with, but I find
the in phone editing apps and in-camera editing that can now be done
(like on the fly raw coonversions) to be of little value. I, for one,
don't want to edit my images on a tiny 3" screen, in varied lighting
conditions, not to mention if I'm out shooting I'd prefer to continue
shooting than edit.

The biggest possible advantage I see is the ability to upload to the
web instantly and GPS, but even then, unless it's a simple 'Hey look
at this', I prefer to edit/adjust before sharing.

Everything has already been invented.

That was the reason the head of the patent office somewhere in the USA gave

It is, of course, always true in some sense.
