I might try out the sidekick which I hear is good for the 500mm and is half the cost of the gimbal heads. I have the Kirk King Cobra have no issue with it. Check out a recent addition - the Jobo. Looks simple I believe is less costly that the full blown Wimberly Kirk. Now what about the tripod you'll be using.
