Re: PESO: Blue on blue and brown

Tim, there =is= something intriguing about this shot.  What would happen if you
darkened it so that the tree was almost a silhouette?  Might take a bit of
curves play, but could be worth it.  As it is, it seems too many things are
competing for attention.

This left me irritated because I’m sure there’s a really first-rate
photo lurking in there somewhere, with the lightbulbs echoing the sky,
but I took about 25 and none of them were better than “mildly
interesting and kind of pretty” which is how I’d describe this one. -T

I think I have to agree with Ann's assessment here. I'm guessing it looked
really good in person but there's just not enough to make a compelling image.

Not that it's a bad photo as is but it needs more. Or less. Or something.

;-)

cheers,
frank

Well done exposure, Tim. At least you gave it a chance to be great.
Seriously, this has a very nice look and mood about it. You may have more than
you apparently think.

good description :-)

Yeah - it's the kind of scene that enchants in person but is so hard to
translate to the screen or page. hard to make it work -- think it needs
another visual element to be a photo.

I see what you're saying. Did you try underexposing it by 2-3 stops?
If the sky went super deep blue, the tree went entirely into
silhouette and the lights were still quite bright, *that* might kick
it up a notch.
