Re: PESO: Blue on blue and brown
Tim, there =is= something intriguing about this shot. What would happen if you darkened it so that the tree was almost a silhouette? Might take a bit of curves play, but could be worth it. As it is, it seems too many things are competing for attention. RE: PESO: Blue on blue and brown
I think I have to agree with Ann's assessment here. I'm guessing it looked really good in person but there's just not enough to make a compelling image. Not that it's a bad photo as is but it needs more. Or less. Or something. ;-) cheers, frank --- Original Message --- From: Tim Bray Sent: January 13, 2012 1/13/12 To: "Pentax-Discuss Mail List" Subject: PESO: Blue on blue and brown Leftover lights: http://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/201x/2012/01/11/-big/IMG_1257.jpg.html This left me irritated because I’m sure there’s a really first-rate photo lurking in there somewhere, with the lightbulbs echoing the sky, but I took about 25 and none of them were better than “mildly interesting and kind of pretty” which is how I’d describe this one. -T -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: PESO: Blue on blue and brown
Well done exposure, Tim. At least you gave it a chance to be great. Seriously, this has a very nice look and mood about it. You may have more than you apparently think. Re: PESO: Blue on blue and brown
I see what you're saying. Did you try underexposing it by 2-3 stops? If the sky went super deep blue, the tree went entirely into silhouette and the lights were still quite bright, *that* might kick it up a notch.
