Hi Brian:  I actually like the color version better.  I think the spider rock

you were screwed by the time of day you were there... but I don't think 
the bw does anything.  Prefer the color

Colour works better to my eye. Better perception of depth. Seems more 3D to

I quite like both versions, but perhaps the black  white a bit more.

I prefer the color one--the BW version doesn't have enough of a tonal range to 
hold my interest.

Both could use a wider tonal or contrast range--some playing with curves might 
be useful.
