RE: Recommend a 3rd party, inexpensive, WA (15-20mm) lens?
Mir is Ukrainian I think not Russian. Big difference (ask them). I have a 45mm F 3.5 medium format from that company. It's OK but not as good as the ones from Arsat although I don't think they make one in that size. Their 30/3.5 fisheye is superb. The best lens I have from there is the Kaleniar 150/2.8. As good as almost any medium format Zeiss lens. Does anyone have a recommendation, for instance, on the Cambridge (Cambron) lenses? or how about the Sakars, and the other Russian lenses? And how about MC MIR 20-M 20mm f/3,5? They are available in both M42 (I have the one) and K-mount version. In Poland it costs about $150 (a new one) and I recently bought it slightly used but in decent condition for about $80... Some say it's the best Russian lens:) Greetz Artur - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. Hi Sid, I got a RMC Tokina 17mm f/3.5 for £50 (about $75) which was a bargain. I've seen them go for over twice that. It's a great focal length. Obviously not a world beater, but it's reasonable as long as you stop down a bit. Actually I shot some pics wide open, and they're, ahem, acceptable. http://www.macads.co.uk/pentax/remembranceday.html It's not the AT-X version, it's the earlier one. Cheap and cheerful until I can snag a SMC 15mm 3.5 !!! I just can't continue to sacrifice so much of the image as is necessary with the Super Tak (cropping the outer 20%, in order to arrive at a fairly sharp finished image) I've searched the catalogs, and there doesn't seem to be a lens in the $200US dollar range that has fairly decent reviews. Are there any lenses that bridge the gap between the low priced (and lousy reviews) lenses like the Vivitar 19/3.something, and the very expensive Pentax, Tamron lenses that are often in the $400 dollar range. I bought an old Sigma 18-35 manual focus on eBay a while back: Henry's had a bunch of them as new old stock and was selling them out at around $200.00 each. It's no match for a good prime or even a current pro level zoom but it's great for the money if you can find one. It's one of the most fun lenses in my bag, actually. I bought a vivitar series1 19-35 from Henry's on Ebay. I think it was even cheaper at $160 or so. I don't think you can knock that for value for money. Okay, it's a bit fuzzy round the edges wide open but what do you really expect for the price? Personally, I'd save up for a pentax or a tamron. I've got a tamron sp 17mm f3.5 and a pentax-m 20mm f4. Paid GBP 250 apiece. Well worth it. Wendy --- Wendy Paul Beard Ottawa, Canada mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. For screwmount try to find a Mamiya 21mm F4. It's sharp even in the corners. About $150. There is also a screwmount Zeiss Flektogon 20mm F2.8 and F4 that are supposed to be good. About 200-300 bucks though. JCO - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
