Re: Tricky shot - need advice

2001-06-21 Thread Tom Rittenhouse

If you are going to use strobe, I suggest finding a pro shop
and renting a serious unit, something like a 4800ws pack
with 4 heads. You aim the heads so they overlap in the
center of the dome but the edges only are lit by one or two
heads. You should use a Polaroid to check and adjust the
lighting before making the serious exposures.

Of course, if you are not getting paid at least expenses
this will take quite a lot of out-of-pocket money, maybe
more than you want to spend. However, if you are doing this
for pay, you will want professional results.

RE: Tricky shot - need advice

2001-06-20 Thread Paris, Leonard

I'd put a Sto-Fen Omnibounce on the AF500FTZ and use a lens wide enough to
capture as much of the dome as you desire, i.e. if you need a fisheye, use
one. The Sto-Fen will give good coverage down to a 16mm wide angle. I'd
practice several shots (while the chandelier is there) and see what the
results look like so as to be ready for when the chandelier is taken down.
The FA 20-35mm f/4 might be a good choice of lens to try, too. Hey, if a
50mm will cover what you want, use it. Same goes for longer focal lengths.

You Are going to use the Pentax 67 to do this, of course!

I would use a couple of 500 watt yard lights to illuminate the
dome, and an 80A filter to correct the colour. your exposure
times will be fairly long with this sort of setup, but at least
you will be able to see the effect of the lighting.
