I don't own a 67. Alas, only a couple of 645 Pentaxes. If there is a
Brotherhood of the 67, I wonder how many sit at the 645 Pentax table?

I believe that the Pentax Medium Format Brotherhood is open to 645
owners (though sometimes we may snicker at your tiny negatives behind
your back...just kiddin'). Also, the word "Brotherhood" is used in an
inclusive way, not to limit us to male members only.

Brothers, the 645ers should be permitted as acolytes who are still learning The Way of
the Big Neg, but if we expand to other brands, it may be difficult to get a quorum to
decide important things. For example, what color robes should be worn at the
meetings? I vote for 18% gray.

Not a chance. I prefer to get my exercise some other way than by

Shirley. I mean, surely she does. Seriously, the 6x7 has made me a
better photographer. First, I'm enjoying my time behind the lens a lot
more. Second, I work harder at trying to find good shots. That's partly
a result of having only 10 frames on that roll of 120. I shot around 20
rolls in the last week, with as many keepers per roll as I typically get
on a 36 exposure roll of 35mm film.

This is an OUT AND OUT FALSEHOOD. In fact, we have CD-exchange programs

Re: 67 Brotherhood

I did find a wonderful medium format
folder last week. "Proud III"
It has the little ground glass vertical
viewer (like the very old folders) as well
as the rangefinder.
It also has alternate windows onthe back for
viewing different frame marks, and a flip-up
mask for shooting 6x4.5 or 6x6.
Really a neat little camera.
My research shows it to be quite uncommon.
BUT it had some damage, so I left it.
Might have been nice.

Faggots are small cords of wood in Old English.

Not to be confused with modern American English vernacular

There's a little switch on the right hand side (when looking forward, i.e.
the shutter release side) of the mirror box which locks up the mirror.
It's in a portrait orientation (i.e. taller than wide) and about one
centimeter long. There's a little switch on the left hand side which is
the lens release button.

If you're looking at a body, and the shutter is cocked, pushing up on the
switch will lock up the mirror. It can only be release by pushing the
shutter release or pushing the reset switch (that's the little recessed
doodad).

The shutter release is on the body part, *not* the mirror box, and is a
small circular recessed button. You can't push it by mistake.

I forgot to add: to cock the shutter, you'll either need film in the
camera or someone who knows enough about 6x7s to do the little trick with
the exposure count dial.

*aaargh!* I shouldn't be posting. That's the mirror lockup release
and reset button, not the shutter release. You only need this if a
battery runs out mid-exposure.

The shutter release is the feeping obvious thing on the top of the camera.

If you've ever used a manual camera (or even an MZ style camera, a P6x7
will be blindingly obvious.

Some 67 bodies have it; others do not. I think the later ones have it,
while the earlier ones do not. I think that all of the 6x7 ones have it.

The "reset" switch does not release the mirror lockup on my 6x7. I
can only return the mirror by taking a picture. Pentax may have
modified the design on future models.

When I press the reset switch the mirror will only come down when
the shutter release is pressed, and the shutter activates at the same
time. What shutter speed is used I don't know (maybe 1/1000) but it
certainly isn't the speed on the dial (I tried it at 1 second).

The first time I read that, I read it as Casselberry's body being large...

But the second time, well, the 6x9 Fuji Rangefinders look slightly smaller
than the 6x7. Whether they're lighter I don't know, but they won't
require the big mirror box, so they should be less bulky. They have a
good reputation for sharp lenses as well.
