Re: An new record?
JC For comparison (not that pdml really cares) the BH list price for a new JC Canon EF 85/1.2L USM (imported) is $1430(US), and the average eBay price for JC five of them sold since 2004-11 is $1290(US), all [Mint-] or better. Pretty JC soon these crappy new autofocus Canon EF L series lenses are going to be a JC bargain... How about modifying it to fit Pentax ;-) Good light! fra

Re: An new record?
Wow! All that after the seller described it as a wide angle lens. I paid $400 for mine, and it came on the front of a nice MX along with a 40/2.8. Of course I had to blow up the ebay photo 300% to see what I was buying. RE: An new record?
I think the reputation of the seller had a lot to do with it. They seem to get top bucks for stuff. They also have a A 15/3.5 and an A* 300/2.8. Should get imteresting. Re: An new record?
$1377(US) for a SMCP-A* 85/1.4 probably is a new record. Very few of these crappy old manual focus lenses are sold on eBay, and it seems that every one sold in the last 7 or 8 months has commanded a higher price. I have observed the following: $885 in 2004-08; $1070 in 2004-09; $1128 and $1377 in 2005-03 (two in March). The one sold in 2004-08 was condition [E+], but all three since then were [Mint-] or better. For comparison (not that pdml really cares) the BH list price for a new Canon EF 85/1.2L USM (imported) is $1430(US), and the average eBay price for five of them sold since 2004-11 is $1290(US), all [Mint-] or better. It does make you wonder, when the ad copy for this lens says, This would be a wonderful wide angle lens for your Pentax 35mm system! keith Rob Studdert wrote: I suspect that this has to be a new record price for a crappy old manual focus 85mm lens? :-) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemrd=1item=7503794246 Rob Studdert
Re: An new record?
My mistake. I thought it was a K 85/1.8. Im not surprised at this price for an A 85/1.4. On Mar 31, 2005, at 6:36 AM, Paul Stenquist wrote: Wow! On 31/3/05, Rob Studdert, discombobulated, unleashed: I suspect that this has to be a new record price for a crappy old manual focus 85mm lens? :-) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemrd=1item=7503794246 I sold a mint in box A* 85mm 1.4, 2 years ago for 750 GBP - that's 1416 USD at today's rate. I bought it a year earlier for 650 GBP so I was happy :-) Cheers, Cotty ___/\__ || (O) | People, Places, Pastiche ||=|http://www.cottysnaps.com _
