I'd say that the F 50mm f/1.7 is as good as the FA 50mm f/1.7 and maybe just a little bit better, if you can believe some lens testers, like Photodo for one. How much is your friend asking for it? It is a really good lens. I was very lucky and I paid $40 dollars for mine (secondhand, of course). It is in what I'd say excellent+ condition.
