 91-93 front end, or 94? If it's a 94, that's a great deal. :-)

I'm pretty sure it's 93 or earlier. But I've been shopping around and
I've seen what they sell for: It's still a steal at the price.

AND... the seller's visiting Pittsburgh in two weeks so he'l deliver it

2007-06-22 Thread Patrick Genovese
Hi John,

1. Nice Shot...

2. Would you pixel peep a couple of high contrast images for me and
check out the CA artefacts etc... ?? Thanks in advance.

3. You mention its is a great action lens... In what ways ?

4. How is the focusing speed on the K10D ?

Basically I may have the opprtunity to buy one of these (estate sale).
And if the asking price is reasonable I'll buy it but since the K10
is my main camera now I want to make sure that it is a good
investment. The other alternative is the upcoming fa 50-135 ... I'm
not in a rush so I can wait but otoh i prefer the 70-200 range as
opposed to 50-135.

Rgds

I'm not the right person to ask. I rarely print larger than 8x10,
and I don't pixel-peep my images. But I'm happy with the lens.
It's a heavy beast to carry around (especially on a K10D with the
battery grip fitted), but it's a wonderful lens for action shots.

Around $1700 street price. I got mine, used, for $1200 or so,
and considered that a good deal. The lowest price I've ever
seen for one of them is still in four figures.

Re: FA* 80-200 f/2.8

2007-06-21 Thread Axel Belinfante
I may be in a position to obtain an FA* 80-200 f/2.8 in virtually new
condition. As far as i know it is reputed to be a fantastic lens.

I like it a lot; but my only comparison was with its contemporary
FA 80-200 f/4.5-5.6 (or so).
the FA lens turned out to be pretty slow for some situations I wanted to use
it for (and I once made the mistake of using a too cheap filter with it :-/

regarding the FA*:
I especially like the extra light it gives me in low-light situations.
have had no problems using it fully open.
I'm not sure I like its weight, though... (monopod works wonders) -
and weight/size seems to be something one may get used to in my experience.

For those lucky enough to own one ... I have a couple of questions ??

How does it perform on the K10D ?

my experience is limited. I would say: fine.

I'm not just interested in sharpness bokeh but also in digital
problems such as sensor flare CA ?

cannot help you there.

I only recently got the K10D; my experience with digital is
slowly growing. most experience I have with it is on (P)Z1.

one thing I'm trying to understand for myself is how
the 1.5 factor works out w.r.t. usability of this lens.
it gives a bit more tele (which I like) but also
loses a bit w.r.t. (for example) relative close-by portrait.
but then again, this is not about the lens, but about 80-200
in general.
I do wonder, though, how the promised DA* lenses will work out
in that respect, and whether the 50-135 might be a better fit
for existing usage patterns. time may tell :-)

I am wondering how common/rare lenses are;
I found the quite extensive overview of pentax stuff
on the web (forgot the name/url, sorry); it could be
cool to have some idea about sold numbers
(hundreds? thousands? tens of thousands? millions?)

I have no idea about prices, but I would be tempted to
suggest: if you can make a nice deal on this lens, you may
be able to try at litlle costs, by which I mean: it will
likely not loose its value in case you would like to sell
it again.

Regards,
Axel.

I've used the Tokina ATX-Pro 828 with a PZ-1P and *ist-D for several
years now. I'm using it with the K-10D, *ist-D and PZ-1P now.

The 1.5 crop factor doesn't affect the focusing distance of the lens.
The portrait fills more of the frame at the same distance, so you may
have to back off just a bit if you're already filling the frame on the PZ-1.
