I have all that on my D2h and use it in Av mode with single sensor AF. Lots of neat
stuff,but how much
is really necessary.??

Wow. What were they thinking. Must have been in the pipeline and would
have cost more to kill it than to sell a couple thousand and then kill it.

That's probably the case.
At least it's one last hurrah for film SLR's. Looks like a pretty good
one too!
Don't think they'll sell many except to collectors, though. Perhaps
they're trying to become the Leica of SLR's.

Hehe, I knew it would happen! F6 looks like a great camera, did you
see the viewfinder coverage, 100% I also knew the APS sized sensor
in 35mm was just temporary, hehe. APS sized sensors are for APS
 cameras I say!

Uh, the F6 doesn't have a sensor, it's a film camera. I'll be surprised
if they sell enough of them to cover the cost of the advertising, yet
alone the cost of development. I don't think you'll see another high
end film camera from Canon.

Well both Pentax and apparently Nikon, think theres still healthy sales to be had in

It is obviously just a film version of the D2's. Just like the *ist is the film
sibling of the *istD. And the MZ-s a spin-off of the MD-S. This saves lots of
developing costs.

I'm not sure about this. We've been running a survey at the Wally World
where I work in the Photo Center. Since September 1,we've sold 1 P&S film
camera and 27 digital cameras. Probably close to 50% of our film processing
is from one time use cameras. Digital processing via our kiosk is
increasing daily.

The scuttlebut I am hearing is that Nikon is getting out of film P&S
cameras entirely. No biggie there, they don't make their own anyway,
but that they will release on final high end film SLR (the F6), as
they feel there will be enough demand for it to justify it.
The really high end cameras such as the Nikon F series are, to a
great extent, cachet cameras for amateur photographers, rather than
tools for professionals anyway.
Canon has, I believe, indicated that they are pretty much out of the
film SLR business, I wouldn't expect another top end film EOS,
although another Rebel may come down the pike at some point.
Our processing numbers and camera sales numbers match yours pretty
closely. I think we have a higher % of film to one time use at the
moment, but the trend is definitely there.

One thing though, we are not getting many more one time cameras in as
compared to last year, according to our recycling figures, but we are
processing a lot less film.

Feedback I have been hearing that there may be a digital backlash soon,
especially in the P&S market, as folks just find digital camreas too
complicated to use.

It may be that a lot of people return to nice and easy P&S iin the near
future.

Lets hope it happens while there is still film out there to buy.
I am spending more time explaining digital to people than I ever did

Same here. I've found that showing some photos taken with the Optio S or
Optio MX and printed on the Frontier 375 show the average consumer they
NORMALLY don't need more than 3 megapixels for the usual 4x6 snapshot.

Our Noritsu has made some great 8x10's from 3MP cameras. Nothing that
I'd be happy with at close range, but it's rare to find a customer who
can find any fault with them. If you want to crop, though, that's a
whole different story.

It's rare that I have to explain much beyond the basics when it comes
to digital photography. Apart from the rare customers (usually middle
aged people too busy/lazy to read a manual or too insecure to think
they could understand it) who want to know every single feature,
people seem to want to know only how to use it as simply as possible.
