Just saw this one. Hooly dooly. #3 makes me tingly, in a good way.

Re: Florida Gallery (mostly Butterfly Macros)

2008-02-24 Thread Bob Sullivan
Thank you all for commenting...

Paul - I like 'Resting Butterfly' as well but had trouble picking a
single best shot.
Christina - I think some of those focusing problems are a very shallow
depth of field, can't get it all in.
Dave - A dud lens for sure - NOT! You Auzzies are pretty good at
finding the special lenses (and enablement).
Ken - Interesting comment about butterflies competing with the flora.
I wonder if I've become bored with simple record shots of various
butterflies and am looking for something more with the flora. In post
processing, some of the simplest shots stand out.
Bob W. - The Voightlander does really show off in rendering of Out of
Focus areas, the K10D held up pretty well too.;-) I guess the Wood
Stork doesn't really belong with the butterflies.
Joe - Thanks for looking and commenting.
Rick - Thanks, I think he's feeding off of the red flower. I saw more
feeding activity than usual that day and the lens worked to my
advantage to capture it.

Now the down side of this gallery came when my wife reviewed the
gallery. Gee honey, I should borrow that lens when I take flower
photos. Now we're enabling spouses!

Thanks again, I appreciate all the comments. They help me see the
photos from a different perspective and learn how to better edit them
in the future.

Regards, Bob S.

2008-02-23 Thread Christine Aguila
Hi Bob: Wow. More shots with a Voightlander. I just posted to Derby that
I'd never heard of Voightlander before subscribing to this list and that
after seeing shots with this lens, I've got a strong itch to try the lens,
and your lovely butterfly photos only made the itch itchier! My grand
favorite is Blue Butterfly, but out of the bunch I also liked Feeding, Busy,
Resting, Artistic, and Cameo. The stork is also a nice one.

I think Florida Sunshine have some focusing problems, and for Sunshine
Butterfly, I'd crop a little on the right. HTH. Overall, I really enjoyed
seeing your butterfly photos--a photographic subject I never tire of gazing
at.
Cheers, Christine

RE: Florida Gallery (mostly Butterfly Macros)

2008-02-23 Thread Bob W
There are some really beautiful pictures there, they show off the lens
very well, and the lens seems to do great justices to the subjects
bringing out their colour and texture. It seems to have a very subtle
quality, the lens, and the bokeh is wonderful.

This one, however, is the fugliest butterfly I've ever seen. You sure
it's not a moth?

I too like resting buterfly for its simplicity. Cameo is good but I see it
more in a portrait orientation with more room @ the top.
Most of the others seem to have the butterflies competing with the flora.
