Pasvorn Boonmark wrote: Bruce, These are nice. Macro is something that I have not tried. I think it is because of my fear of using flash. :) I am always amazed by them. How do you set-up your fill light, from the back? Thanks for sharing. -Pasvorn Thanks, Pasvorn! This is my first venture with a P-TTL flash, and my first use of flash in a few decades. :-) I'm a huge fan of available light, but I knew that I could only achieve some goals using lighting. This would be easier with a diagram, but if you imagine that the ring flash attached to the macro lens looks like the bottom of a wide-brimmed hat, the tulip blooms were actually part-way into the hat. So not much light from the flash (which fires forward from around the lens) could strike the bloom. I just arranged a sheet of white paper to lie behind the bloom about 4-5 cm's, slightly curved, to reflect the flash back toward the side of the bloom opposite my lens. In the case where I'm looking straight down into the top of the tulip, I slit the paper half-way and cut a round circle so I could fit it around the stem of the tulip. Everything was just manually positioned, and I held my breath a lot. :-) This would likely work better with a proper light modifier, like a small Lastolite reflector, but I ain't got there yet. Bob Sullivan wrote: Bruce, I like all three, beautiful. The two new additions are creative, especially the 1st. How does that flash work. Is it P-TTL? Who stocks it. Regards, Bob S. Thank-you, Bob! Yes, it's P-TTL. It also works TTL with the *istD bodies. The controller plugs in the hotshoe, and the ring flash attaches easily to the front of your lenses using a threaded adapter. You can rotate the flash around 360 degrees while controlling the relative light output from the two half-ring strobes. It has four LED modeling lights that are controlled by the same settings as the strobes. You get adapters for all the standard Pentax glass, except it can't be fitted to the DA*16-50. There's a special adapter for the DFA50 and DFA100 macro lenses that attaches to their hood mounts. As to who stocks the AF160FC, I'd say almost nobody, sadly. Henrys in Canada had two in stock only at their flagship Toronto store, and they were in the "Professional" department. You probably have to special-order this flash through your friendly Pentax dealer. -bmw -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
