Re: Help! Showing Photos at Art Show
Cool, Mark. Thanks for ALL the infor. Mucho appreciated. Cards always sell well and most of the people who do 2D work sell them. I don't do calendars but a few of the people in the group do and those seem to sell well also. I've tried photo books a couple of times and at best have broken even - its hard to get the printing costs on a small run of books low enough to be able to resell them. I keep planning on doing one of a kind handmade books but just haven't gotten around to it. With cards, some of the folks in the group do multi-packs which work out well. So, they may sell card for $4 each but a pack of 6 for $22 or something like that. We are not set up to handle volume based pricing, if we were it would be convenient to just set up the pricing scales to encourage folks to get the one more card. The one problem with cards is that they intrude on small print sales. If you are selling a 6x4 card for $4 its hard to sell a matted 5x7 print at a price that covers materials and the time to mat it. Can't help with card printers - I print the cards myself on my Epson 3880 using Museo Artist Card paper (B&H usually has the best price). Cost per card is about 95 cents - 75 cents for the paper, 15 cents for ink and 3 cents for the clear bag. I usually print only 3 or 4 of any image, unless it has a history of being a good seller and then I do 5 to 7. I can never predict what will sell well or not so go for small batches .Since its a month long operation I can monitor and restock as needed. Have fun! Any other products that sell well other than cards? (From your experience.) Not sure I want to spend the money on making up small notebooks, calendar notebooks, or calendars, but like to hear your experience. 2. Anyone have any particular online card making place to recommend? Now I have to come up with a quick portfolio, regular and artified photographs to show to the organizer. Re: Help! Showing Photos at Art Show
That really does help, Ken, thanks. While I enjoy printing my own photos, than is more for hanging on my own walls and not a mass production thing. And Epson inks ain't cheap, so I figured something online would probably be better for something like this. Marnie aka Doe :-) On 5/7/2017 4:23 PM, Ken Waller wrote: 1. You simply attach your image to their blanks - good quality product with a large variety of card types to choose from. I use to print my own images for these but recently found out I can get 4"X6" prints cheaper than I can print them for and I don't have to take the time to print - simply select images and send to printer - I use Bay Photo BTW https://www.bayphoto.com/products/ HTH Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: "Marnie (aka Doe)" Subject: Help! Re: Help! Showing Photos at Art Show
She meant hanging photos. I don't just do 11x16's or something, I do all sizes of hanged photos. It meant framed. I have been to that art show before and knew what she meant. That is a cool idea, I didn't want to have to mat a lot of photos, which is the way a lot of people display them (photos in mats with no frames - in a bin or something where people can flip through them). I don't want to put a lot of expense into this. I did have a web page but I have let it lapse and I am still considering reviving it or doing something else. A lot of my problem with it was I was "rolling my own" web page and thumbnail gallery and I found it more and more time intensive. This would be a one time thing, unless there is enough interest to encourage me to show/sell more of my photos than I have to date. Thanks for the input.
