Don't ake my word for this, but my boss tells that the midle pin is a
communication pin used to give the camera the information it needs to
calculate how long the batteri will last. He sais it has no
significanse for charging.

2011-03-16 Thread John Celio
Larry, I think you just need to get a car power inverter so you can plug
your regular charger into your car. I don't trust third-party chargers
to do it right and not damage expensive batteries.

The Pentax D-BC90 charger for the D-Li90 battery (K5, K7, 645D) has
three pins: +, T, -

I am having a very difficult time finding a charger that'll run off of
car power that has three contacts, they all seem to ignore T, and just
charge + & -.

I also found my SDM-138 charger for the K20 that's been missing for
months. It appeared in the dojo training room, along with a battery
tonight. The wonderful feature about it was that it would use the
battery in it to power LEDs as a flashlight, when it wasn't powered into
external power. Absolutely brilliant, a few cents worth of extra parts
and it packs in a whole bunch of handy functionality. I'd carry the
charger and battery in my pack anyways, and this way I don't also need
to pack a flashlight to find the little widgets hiding at the bottom.

I have one of those. But sometimes when I'm trying to travel light, it's a lot
easier to carry one charger that'll do everything than chargers and inverters
etc.

Well, I used to sell Promaster universal chargers back at my camera shop
job. You may want to check and see if any of their current chargers
support the K-5 battery. They make good products, for the most part.
Pretty reliable.
