Re: LR question... Exporting catalog for rating, etc...
smart previews are only on version 5 - worth the upgrade for this feature alone in your case, but there are some other nice features in version 5 too Alastair On 25 October 2013 13:53, Christine Nielsen wrote: > Excellent... easier than I thought. Re: LR question... Exporting catalog for rating, etc...
Picked the groups of files you want to work with. Export as catalog and include previews and Smart Previews, no negatives. Carry that catalog anywhere you like and create collections, metadata, whatever. When back to your main system, import the edited catalog. All your edits, collections, etc will move into the main catalog. Re: LR question... Exporting catalog for rating, etc...
You can export your catalog and import it into LR on another computer no problem. All your metadata will be in the catalog, so your rating and scoring will travel with the catalog files. If the image files are not on your laptop, then you'll only have whichever previews have been rendered for those files. Since you say you don't plan on editing them on your laptop, not having the files shouldn't be a problem (though you will see a warning on each file in LR.
