Jeff, being a fellow TOPDMLer... I gotta ask.. What street ? :) Way to go :) Dave -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Jeff Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 11:10 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Made my day. No, I didn't score onebay. No, I didn't take the picture of a lifetime. I saved the life of a mother duck and her ducklings. They started walking across a busy 4 lane road. When I realized what was in front of me I slammed on the brakes and honked the horn. The seemed to turn back, but after a second or two, the mother duck continued towards the centre lanes. I had only one option. I got out of the car and stopped all oncoming traffic (crazy). And then proceeded to escort the flock across the street. When I returned to my car, instead of getting dirty looks, people started to applaude. This made my day. I didn't have to record it with a camera. It's etched forever in my mind. Re: Made my day.
What a wonderful thing you did. I'm proud of you. These little creatures need all the help they can get. You deserved the applause that you received. A similar incident happened here last week on one of our busiest highways (6 lane divided interstate). The northbound local lanes were at a standstill and there were flashing lights up ahead. I was in the express lane, and when I got to the flashing lights there were 2 highway patrol cars blocking the road, and the patrolmen were guiding a mother Canada goose and at least six babies across the the road to safety. It looked like they all made it to the other side, too, from what I could see. Sometimes one gets kind of down hearing the bad things on the news day after day, and then someone does a very kind thing and helps another human being or a helpless animal, it restores ones faith in humanity. Thanks for what you did. Re: Made my day.
This is lovely story. I can just imagine the mother duck and her duckings wobbling across the street in a line. Safe this time. But I wonder how they would learn not try this again.
