From what I have read, the lamp for Minolta scanners can be easily replaced 
by users. It could be obtained from Minolta.

I'm sure you're right about the lamp going, since the problem has become 
much
worse now!
It's a shame, too; I haven't used this scanner very much, so I can't say I
think I got my money's worth out of it.
Fortunately my HP Photosmart is still scanning negatives very
nicely.
