RE: OT: Lik ity Split
Never heard of him, eh? ... It's a new program on our Weather channel on this side of the pond... FOr a minute I was about to blame Jack for clipping my link -- but neither of us sent one to the list... Here - see how long you can take him :-) http://www.weather.com/tv/tvshows/peter-lik Cheers, ann I'd never heard of him before his $1 million photo was mentioned in a press article, and now this video you just posted. It seems to me that he's a successful bullshitter more than anything else. His pictures are average and not very interesting, and abseiling is no big deal as long as the person at the top knows what they're doing. Hell, even I've done it, and I'm scared shitless of heights and rock climbing. He appears to be doing something ordinary, then applying a thick layer of bullshit to make it seem better and to push the price up. Good luck to him, but let's not be taken in by it all. Re: OT: Lik ity Split
The only thing is, LIk is pretty much a self-parody. I watched two episodes on TV...because of -where- he was... my very own favorite part of the country but it was painful to hear him. The vid guy is good, and that's easy to watch... I saw these before I had (a) heard of him and (b) saw that he sold a photo for a million. I had heard about the sale, I think, and was appalled that someone destroyed a neg to get the big bucks. But Scott as Lik... now there's a picture! ann On 7/3/2011 07:19, Cotty wrote: On 2/7/11, Ann Sanfedele, discombobulated, unleashed: Here - see how long you can take him :-) http://www.weather.com/tv/tvshows/peter-lik I lasted 2 whole videos, do I win a prize. Twas I, Ann. I'm driven to shutting off the sound at times at his continuously retreating to bloody and mate somewhere in each breathless garbled utterance. The extreme over saturation is offensive in its attempt to save images. Would appear he is a financial success. That fact reminds me of a comment attributed to Spencer Tracy about Hollywood incomes. His thought was, Clark Gable makes the most money, so he must be the best actor. I've actually seen some nice well composed examples of his work, but in each case they were spoiled by the saturation slider..or wet lab equivalent. Still check out each episode..just in case. Re: OT: Lik ity Split
You don't have to be a good photographer to make money out of photography, you just have to be good at selling yourself. On 3 July 2011 08:48, P. J. He paid a few grand for it, but it was an investment because they are limited aditions and the higher the print number the higher the price. I didn't have the heart to tell him he'd been had. Go to eBay right now and search for Peter Lik print; you might be surprised at hoe many people are trying to unload prints at the prices they were told they were worth...only to find out nobody's willing to buy them at said (ridiculous prices). I'd give my opinion of Mr Lik here, but he has the lawyers to sue me, so I'll remain silent. Like you guys said, his images are OK, some are very pretty, but not worth several thousand a piece, let alone $1 million: http://www.peterlikexposed.com/archives/237 His own comment on this $1 million photo is that it's the best shot I have taken in my lifetime.” Now take a good look at the photo... Exactly. And that's all I gotta say about that.
