Yep, but it's a 1931 - the last year for Excelsior-Henderson.
The bike is a KL model, which was their high-performance bike: High
compression pistons and hotter cams than the standard "KJ".
And, as Frank noted, that *is* an in-line four cylinder engine.

It is almost identical to the allegedly 1930 model on the Wikipedia site.

No braided _hose_ on any motorcycle in 1930 that I can think of. Many _cars_
still had cable/rod brakes. That is part of the wiring harness.

I remember seeing that on some history channel/Discovery channel/some
damn channel/ special. Schwinn wanted to build motorcycles and bought
Henderson Excelsior to eliminate some of the competition. Of course,
Scwhinn eventually decided to go the pedal route and that was the end of
of EH.

Thanks, Frank. I've been lusting after a Raleigh Clubman, or maybe a
Lenton. They're not really collectors items (read: they can be had for
much less than your 50s Schwinn) in the States, but finding an intact 50
or 60 year old bike is not that easy. One of these days.

Sweet!

I've always wanted to own a Schwinn. Not one like yours, but an old
1950's cruiser. I remember seeing ads for Schwinns on Captain
Kangaroo when I was a kid, and I wanted one - they were so exotic (we
