Re: OT Q: pen for signing on inkjet paper?

2013-04-05 Thread Bruce Walker
As a gesture of "closure", in case anyone Googles this someday, here's
what I found. The Staedtler Triplus Fineliner pens come in silver and
gray, have a very fine soft point, and write indelibly onto the
semigloss Epson Satin Photographic 240 GSM inkjet paper. So that's how
I signed my prints. I used silver as it's about 20% gray, but the gray
pen looks good too and is about 80% gray.

I'm investigating the digital signature ideas -- thanks for those --
but I'm kinda partial to my signature not being a cookie-cutter thing,
but rather unique to each signed print.

Thank you to everyone who suggested a solution. Your thoughts are much
appreciated!

Bruce,

Sorry for the delayed response, - it took me half a month to get to my
desktop where I had the bookmark saved.

Similarly to some PDMLers, I usually use Photoshop to add the signature
(now trying to implement that in LR as well). While there are a bunch
of YouTube videos on how to do that, I find this tutorial more detailed:
http://goo.gl/l2jk2
Besides, it explains how to create the image for you signature, and
how to apply effects to it to improve the look.

HTH,

Igor

2013-03-19 Thread Paul Sorenson
A little late, but...another digital option is to create a brush of your
signature in PhotoShop or PSE. You can size it and color it to fit the
print and it becomes part of the image when you print it. An example is
here...

I paste the image onto a larger canvas, then I sign the image using my

Smart man! I like that. I'm starting to see that I really should
embrace this whole digital thing. ;-)

I usually use a pencil on mat paper or a ball point pen on gloss, ball
point pen for book signings. I took a workshop with a photographer who
recommended archival calligraphy pens. I would just avoid the gel ink
pens since they will fade fast.

I use fine point sharpies, which are available in various colors at office
supply stores.

FYI, Sharpies are available with quite fine tips; I use one to sign
the backs of credit cards. It's either "Ultra Fine" or "Extra Fine."
The one that's simply called "Fine" isn't.

I can't speak to their use on photographs specifically (e.g. archival concerns).
