Re: OT Q: pen for signing on inkjet paper?
As a gesture of "closure", in case anyone Googles this someday, here's what I found. The Staedtler Triplus Fineliner pens come in silver and gray, have a very fine soft point, and write indelibly onto the semigloss Epson Satin Photographic 240 GSM inkjet paper. So that's how I signed my prints. I used silver as it's about 20% gray, but the gray pen looks good too and is about 80% gray. I'm investigating the digital signature ideas -- thanks for those -- but I'm kinda partial to my signature not being a cookie-cutter thing, but rather unique to each signed print. Thank you to everyone who suggested a solution. Your thoughts are much appreciated! Bruce, Sorry for the delayed response, - it took me half a month to get to my desktop where I had the bookmark saved. Similarly to some PDMLers, I usually use Photoshop to add the signature (now trying to implement that in LR as well). While there are a bunch of YouTube videos on how to do that, I find this tutorial more detailed: http://goo.gl/l2jk2 Besides, it explains how to create the image for you signature, and how to apply effects to it to improve the look. Re: OT Q: pen for signing on inkjet paper?
A little late, but...another digital option is to create a brush of your signature in PhotoShop or PSE. You can size it and color it to fit the print and it becomes part of the image when you print it. An example is here... http://home.earthlink.net/~allaround6/images/KX-0010-2.jpg -p On 3/15/2013 8:55 PM, Bruce Walker wrote: On Fri, Mar 15, 2013 at 6:01 PM, Bill wrote: On 15/03/2013 9:43 AM, Bruce Walker wrote: Advice solicited: I want to sign a print I'm selling, Seems such a simple thing: sign a print. I'm starting to see that I really should embrace this whole digital thing. ;-) -- -bmw -- Being old doesn't seem so old now that I'm old. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: OT Q: pen for signing on inkjet paper?
I usually use a pencil on mat paper or a ball point pen on gloss, ball point pen for book signings. I took a workshop with a photographer who recommended archival calligraphy pens. I would just avoid the gel ink pens since they will fade fast. FYI, Sharpies are available with quite fine tips; I use one to sign the backs of credit cards. It's either "Ultra Fine" or "Extra Fine." The one that's simply called "Fine" isn't. I can't speak to their use on photographs specifically (e.g. archival concerns). -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
