Godfrey,

For me, the stone wall divides the picture too much.
Could you please go back and re-shoot the pic with the
wall more in the foreground? And please have a pint
of real ale for me, while you're at it!

2007-01-25 Thread Tom C
Lovely. There's a great feeling to the shot with the brooding skies,
disheveled grass/wildflowers in the foreground, and the stone wall. The
lush greens play against the grays nicely.

It makes me feel as if I'm standing there.

Very nice, Godders. I think it's the best landscape I've seen from you.
Excellent detail, rich tonality. an interesting scene and a pleasing
composition. The foreground flowers add interest and dimensionality,
the powerful sky adds drama. Precisely rendered. Wow!

Nice one, Godfrey. There's a lot in the frame but it's
handled nicely.

I prefer the color to the B/W but both are strong.

i quite like it too but for the minor quibble that i find the
position of the stone wall/fence a little bit distracting, bang in the
middle of the frame... but, a soothing image, for me, especially when
viewed large.

Hello Godfrey,

much better for me.

This I do like.
Here "wrong" composition seems right. For me the foreground adds context,

But what's wrong with kippers? ;-)

I have mixed feelings, Godfrey. It has a lot going for it, but the shadows
almost make it look vignetted (dark on sides and bottom). I'd bring up a
little shadow detail on the right to counteract that effect.

But I see others like it as is, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

2007-01-26 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
Thanks for the additional comments ... Paul, Michael, Mark, Harry,
Boris, Bruce, et al!

I have about 8-12 exposures of this scene where I varied the dividing
line of the wall, foreground and background, and the focus point. How
the wall, the foreground and the background interact, where the focus
zone is placed, are all pretty important in this kind of photo.

In the end, this is the framing and focus zone I like most as it
enhances the near-far relationships and creates that feel of several
planes in one view. My eye rests naturally in the bottom third and
reaches up into the distance. I also feel it works best with the rest
of the set.

But that's my opinion ... which in this case I get to stand by having
tried the other crops and such and not liking them as much.

I love this stuff. :-)
