Re: PESO: stumped

2021-01-09 Thread ann sanfedele
They look like Honey Mushrooms../*Armillaria Mellea*//**/to me at a
glance...
which have a couple of very dangerous look-a-likes (I know, you aren't
going to harvest)  - one of which  , it looks like, is the Hypholoma
fasciculare, sulphur tuft

that Henk mentioned

Lots of photos on line..  I think a couple of the other photos in the
gallery had nicer geometry than the on eyou selected.. if you are at all
curious about the
species they -might- be always good to get a clear shot of the gills or
lack of them... and what kind of tree the stump is..

With the title as a hint, it became clear.
The calm water is a unique contrast to the stumps.
Well caught!

Thanks again Paul, Christine, Jack, Charles and Ann for the comments on
this.

Ann's comment is particularly interesting.

well you fooled me on the processing... I didnt see the first one but
for this kind of photography I really object to
altering an image with that much removal... tiny objects that appear to
be dust or something is one thing, but removing
the stump, although the photo looks better , bothers me... the light is
beautiful, I like the contrast. The photo to me
is a nature reportage type... the stumps are clearly cut by humans,
etc... could be part of an essay on helping or damaging the
environment... but if you fiddle around with the images in photoshop...
welll... think of those extra missles in that news photo
recently - where the photographer added one or something to get a more
 threatening image.

ann (who just woke up and gets gabby in the morning ;) )

Gabby is good!

This comment makes me wonder how much Photoshopping is acceptable. I
think we all would agree about things like the Iranian's extra missile
but how far should we go with more everyday subjects.

I thought it might be interesting to get PDMLers view on this so I've
stated another thread When is a little Photoshoppery too much
Photoshoppery.

I hope we get a few comments.

The cloning and other manipulations around the left hand stump
 probably
need more work but I think it's an improved composition - still with
 strong contrast, though.

I also slightly increased the size of the image horizontally and then
cropped a bit off the left, to keep the original aspect ratio.

 What say you?

I can see how it caught your eye (the blue, the orange)... but WOW
it's very very harsh to look at (so much contrast!)

Perfect light and great composition take a simple bunch of stumps and
turns them into art!

Great work!

Something different.

All comments solicited, yeah, nay, and/or otherwise.
What would you do differently?

Ken, you get nay from me... I think if you were to demonstrate it 20
years ago, it would get solid yeah, but today, it looks too unnatural,
too artificial... Yes, I realize this is pure photography, no artificial
ingredients, but that is not enough, not this time.

Sorry.

Boris

Cool Ken I like it. Very pleasing abstract. I *might* crop a very thin
thin section at the top where the sky intruded slightly.

Well, it certainly grabs your attention. I do like it better than the
one exposure zoom technique. Fun for an occasional shot, but not a
technique that I would like to see very often. I do appreciate you
sharing it with us, as I have not seen this type before.
