Re: PESO: Blurry or Clear?

Charles,

On occasion, I try to get motion-blurry shots on purpose, and very seldom
(if ever), I get anything reasonable.
After one of dance events, I tried to put together some of the
motion-blurry photos, but I still don't like them:
http://42graphy.org/swing/ch-2008/motion/

.. except maybe one:
http://42graphy.org/swing/ch-2008/motion/IMGP4504_1.html

After yet another recent event, it took some struggle to keep this photo
in the posted gallery, as it was not quite sharp, but it was appealing
to me: http://42graphy.komkon.org/tango/astf-2010/_DSC1133.html
I am still struggling with that decision. :-)

Re: PESO: Blurry or Clear?

2010-05-11 Thread Tom C
I've thought about it for a while now.

Overall I like the second better. I think the issue is, or may be,
how much movement and where in the image.

The first image has movement/blur through the entire frame. It's hard
to differentiate the image from one that was simply blurry due to
camera shake vs.movement of the subject.

I can imagine the second image, where it's basically crisp and sharp
as it is, but possibly only the strumming hand has some motion blur
visible. That type of selective blur of course depends what the
subject is doing and how they're moving. Which leaves it very hit and
miss. Which leads me to think that a shutter speed somwehere between
the two could have yielded the kind of result you were wishing for.
Which leads me to believe it's very hit and miss.
