No I've never tried focus stacking (TBH it doesn't interest me that much). I
never use AF with the macro unless I have the focus limiter set for non-macro
work. It took me a few goes to get the seeds in focus due to both subject
movement and me trying to stay still. I'm usually too lazy to get the tripod
out and that was no exception.

The frustration I expressed with the K10D's AF comes from using it with longer
lenses. It often loses lock and tries to refocus the wrong way, so you have to
wait for it to hit its limit then go all the way back.

Cheers,
Dave

I wouldn't normally use the 400 for flowers but those ones are high up with
awkward backgrounds. I would dearly love to see what a more modern body could
do with that lens. The AF on the K10D is frustrating to say the least.

Ann, the FA macro lens is also very heavy.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I have a couple more photos to post later.

I've had really good success shooting macros off of a focusing rail and
using Photoshop to focus stack a series of images to secure the depth of
field that I desire.

Lovely  again , Dave
My old 100 smc f4.0 macro was one of my favorite lenses for portraits or
macro stuff..  I believe that one went to Stan some years ago..

I couldn't hold it up anymore.  those lenses from the 70's were heavy.

seems to me that the FA*400 actually does better than the Macro. I
haven't really got to grips shooting Macros with the FA100 I bought
recently. Focus & DOF always seem to give me trouble shooting macros
but as a 100mm short tele it does very well.
