I see what you're saying. Did you try underexposing it by 2-3 stops? If the sky went super deep blue, the tree went entirely into silhouette and the lights were still quite bright, *that* might kick it up a notch. Tim, there =is= something intriguing about this shot. What would happen if you darkened it so that the tree was almost a silhouette? Might take a bit of curves play, but could be worth it.
