Marnie,

KPFA is ~NOT~ a talk radio station. It produces and airs many public
affairs shows, but it also airs a lot of music as well. You can do a lot
worse things with your time than listening to the station for a day or so.
All anyone has to do is Google the call letters and all sorts of
information about the station, its programming, its affiliates, and details
about the protest, come up.

RE: PESO - Demo

2006-07-31 Thread Tim Øsleby
I'm many posts behind, as usual. That's the cost of having a life outside
PDML. My next life, will be a virtual life, I think ;-)
Kidding, I don't believe in reincarnation.

Reading this thread was kind of interesting. Without counting it seem that
most comments are negative. Some even _seem_ a bit offended.

I do believe I understand the negative reactions. You give nothing out for
free here Shel. So, the easy way out is responding ney, does not provoke
anything from me.

My reactions? Kind of hard to say. It does make me think. Usually that's a
good thing. But what do I think? I think What are Shel trying to say?
Because, knowing you, it is obvious that you are saying something here. As
said, you don't give us much to go at, no context in frame, and nothing in
your post.

Is it from a demo, or from an artsy happening? I lean toward the artsy
theory.

What makes me think is the fact that the two motifs seem very disconnected.
Apparently no relations between them. If that's the case, then I guess you
are saying something about the bad things going on here on the planet (or in
you neighbourhood or where ever), and about the fact that many doesn’t seem
to care. Am I right?

If I know you right, you dislike answering this question. Don't worry Shel,
you don't have to.

In it's own mysterious way, there are something that provokes reactions in
me. But, for me, I think it is more a brain puzzle, than something emotional
reaction.

With regards to having intent or meaning spelled out, there are photos
in this world that can stand alone without any words accompanying
them, and still convey meaning and intent across cultural, ethnic,

shown good examples of that yourself. The shot in question is not

Shel,
Are you trying to imply some relationship between the poster with the
gag and the man? The poster makes the original artist's statement
(whatever that may be). The asian guy looking on is a derivative
figure trying to add something to that statement. It would be
stronger for me if I thought he was actually looking at the poster's
content, not just around a corner wonder what's on the other side. I
don't see him as actually reacting to the main visual.
