It's very hard to believe that I had not been to SF for a walk or to any museums there for almost two years. It's only 45 minutes away. Just a short few years back, I was in that neighborhood once or twice a week, visiting galleries and museums, shooting photos on the street ... Sigh. Work and my physical state these past five years made it too much of a challenge to try.

Work is no longer an issue, and my legs are finally getting back to the point where I can push them harder than the Saturday Morning Walk requires. Today is my birthday. So my birthday present to myself was to meet up with a photographer friend at SF MOMA on Wednesday, see the new building and some of the exhibits, have a nice lunch, do some photography, and visit the Leica Store nearby.

SF MOMA's new building is ... I can't find the right adjective. Hugely expanded, vast amounts of new works, glorious architecture; it's an amazing pleasure to be there. Linda only made it through the top floor, I made it through part of the sixth floor as well in the time we had. It will take several visits to take it all in. Outstanding: it alone was was worth the trek.

Buena Vista Park and the museum itself afforded the usual rich set of street subject matter. I carried the Leica M-D fitted with 'Lux 35mm v2 lens, and had the WATE in the bag. Didn't switch from the 35mm. I didn't shoot too many frames but am happy with the results I obtained.

We left the museum, stopped at a favorite spot a block or two away for lunch, and then walked up to the Leica Store. I've been meaning to visit Leica Store SF for ages, it was great to finally get there. An exhibition of Danny Lyons photos is on display. It struck me: what other camera shop can I walk into and spend an hour or more enjoying a beautifully curated, superbly presented photographic exhibit for an hour or more without intruding sales personnel getting in the way? Outstanding work ... and the sales person did stop over to say hello, welcome us to the store, and see if we needed any help. It was great.

The Leica Store visit consumed the remainder of the time in the day, and it was time to head home. All in all, an excellent day out. The museum visit was fantastic as was the visit to the Store. Being in the city with a friend to do, to see, to chat about photography, equipment, and art ... This is what gives life fullness and meaning. More, please.

Thank you all for being there with me, in spirit. :-)

Subject: PESO 2016 - 172 - GDG

On Wednesday, I went to San Francisco for a visit to the re-imagined SF
Museum Of Modern Art.

 https://flic.kr/p/KBdL7d

It's very hard to believe that I had not been to SF for a walk or to any
museums there for almost two years. It's only 45 minutes away. Just a short
few years back, I was in that neighborhood once or twice a week, visiting
galleries and museums, shooting photos on the street ... Sigh. Work and my
physical state these past five years made it too much of a challenge to try.

Work is no longer an issue, and my legs are finally getting back to the
point where I can push them harder than the Saturday Morning Walk requires.
Today is my birthday. So my birthday present to myself was to meet up with a
photographer friend at SF MOMA on Wednesday, see the new building and some
of the exhibits, have a nice lunch, do some photography, and visit the Leica
Store nearby.

SF MOMA's new building is ... I can't find the right adjective. Hugely
expanded, vast amounts of new works, glorious architecture; it's an amazing
pleasure to be there. Linda only made it through the top floor, I made it
through part of the sixth floor as well in the time we had. It will take
several visits to take it all in. Outstanding: it alone was was worth the
trek.

Buena Vista Park and the museum itself afforded the usual rich set of street
subject matter. I carried the Leica M-D fitted with 'Lux 35mm v2 lens, and
had the WATE in the bag. Didn't switch from the 35mm. I didn't shoot too
many frames but am happy with the results I obtained.

We left the museum, stopped at a favorite spot a block or two away for
lunch, and then walked up to the Leica Store. I've been meaning to visit
Leica Store SF for ages, it was great to finally get there. An exhibition of
Danny Lyons photos is on display. It struck me: what other camera shop can I
walk into and spend an hour or more enjoying a beautifully curated, superbly
presented photographic exhibit for an hour or more without intruding sales
personnel getting in the way? Outstanding work ... and the sales person did
stop over to say hello, welcome us to the store, and see if we needed any
help. It was great.

The Leica Store visit consumed the remainder of the time in the day, and it
was time to head home. All in all, an excellent day out. The museum visit
was fantastic as was the visit to the Store. Being in the city with a friend
to do, to see, to chat about photography, equipment, and art ... This is
what gives life fullness and meaning. More, please.

Thank you all for being there with me, in spirit. :-)
