some new feature like GPS, ekstra memory, or whatever the wise men of

Or, ... it could just be spare contacts, meant for future features.

To my old eyes the finder looks a bit narrower, but also higher than
before. It is hard to tell from the pictures.

According to rumoured specs it will have 100% coverage and 92%
magnification. If that's correct it will be slightly different, but
not much larger. The focusing screen shall also be improved for
manual focus. So all things considered it seems we are better out than
before.

 Hope you're right William. :-)

Just thought of the recent announcement of the D645 and the long wait
 for the 60-250... :-)

True enough, but I think both of those got buggered by rapid technology
changes that happened concurrent to early design.
Apparently the 60-250 went through a complete optical redesign since that
guy on ForumNeurotica broke his NDA and posted a bunch of pictures from an
early 60-250.

Given that a Pentax rep will be bringing a working one to GFM next
weekend, I think it's reasonable to think that it's pretty damned
close to market-ready as we speak.

cheers,

Re: Pictures of K-7

2009-05-19 Thread P. J. Alling
There's unlikely to be further drop in current models prices with this
announcement. We're looking at a model that slots into the Pentax line
above the K20D. Only when the replacement for that camera is actually
announced do I expect to see a deeper discount on that model and the
K200 is only ~$100 less. The K2000/Km is unlikely to drop in price,
it's damed near brand new.

Any bets on when this camera will hit the market?
I'd guess about Thanksgiving. But I have no idea which year. :-)

It seems like with cameras, they announce quite close to availablity. It
seems to me that both the K10 and k20 were available very soon after they
were announced (like a matter of a few weeks).

There's no visible price drop on the former models yet.
Let's wait for the usual order of announcements:

1) official announcement of model
2) official announcement of availability
3) first market samples
4) first street prices
5) real street prices
6+x) I buy

I suspect it will be in stores by mid to late June. If it takes much longer
than that, there is a good chance the big boys will kick sand in Pentax's
face by introducing a higher specc'ed camera in the interim to compete with
it.

My guess would be precisely the same moment that you cross the Antarctic

Mmm? K20D came out at 1200 US$. There's quite a difference with
today's price.
