(Anybody seen "The Last Station" about the end of Tolstoy's life? Anna

It has probably already been said, but it doesn't really matter what you
name a cat as they will never come when you call it. As for Thomas, there's
always Thomasina.

Hello All,

I'd like to thank everyone for their ideas both on and off the list.
Those that were not useful made us smile, though I'm not sure we have
a conclusion as yet.

We now have a better idea of Russian names and will investigate the
names of the bells at our tower as well to see if any of them fit the
bill (though I know one is called Thomas and that doesn't fit at all).

A neighbour of ours had a couple of Abyssinians. Fascinating and beautiful
cats but they must be a pain to live with as I'm sure they'd get into
everything.

BTW, here's a fun video of Maru the cat. I think he's becoming quite famous.

Will the cats be neutered?

I ask because years ago we had two Abyssinian cat, both male and had them
neutered.
We were casting about trying to find a relevant, comic name and came up with
'Abu Wuzmale' for the older cat and 'Kimo Sabe' for the other.

Much more interesting than Jack or Sam, IMHO.

Hi Everyone,

We are about to buy a female Russian Blue cat and want a Russian name
for her. We are buying her with money earned from ringing church
bells for weddings and thought that a bell related name would be
appropriate. The only problem is that no one we know speaks any
Russian.

Is there anyone on the list who speaks Russian and can provide me with
the Anglicised spelling (and correct pronunciation) of Russian words
for "bell", "wedding", "church" and anything related that would make a
nice name for a Russian Blue cat?

Many thanks in advance.

Leon

I've always thought Oskar would be quite a clever name for a Russian cat.
Oskar Kokoschka, geddit? (even though he was Austrian). But obviously if
it's a girl you'll have to call her Lucinda instead.
