Re: Samsung has spoken (sort of)
One of the reasons I bought a Pentax DSLR was the legacy of lenses I have. Another reason was the wealth of information that can be found here from people who are technically proficient and creative and who understand what goes on between the shutter and the lens. Were it for the likes of John Francis, Godders, Paul, Bruce, and others (No offense intended if I left out _your_ name ... my memory ain't what it used to be, and it's always been marginal), I may have been more reluctant to move forward. This list is probably one of the best resources Pentax has. Take a look at this thread from DPReview: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1001&message=20060190 Apparently (and not surprisingly) the Samsung DSLRs cannot be updated with the recent Pentax firmware updates. Samsung has yet to release their version of the update (SDHC support). I looked through Samsung's web site and there is no mention of firmware updates for the DSLRs or any other model they sell!. Their customer support also sounds pretty clueless about this issue and on other basic questions as the one posted in the thread. Not an answer, but see http://www.steves-digicams.com/pr/samsung_09212006_gx10_pr.html Lens Mount: PENTAX KAF mount compatible with PENTAX KAF2, KAF and KA mount lenses Power zoom function - Not available K-mount lenses - usable with restrictions S-mount lenses - usable with adapter and restrictions 67/645 lenses - usable with adapter and restrictions They are obviously seeing K mount owners as part of their market, and it wouldn't make a lot of sense for them not to do the green button thing if Pentax does it. Remember the green button didn't do anything special with the pre A lenses, or lenses off A position, until Pentax changed the firmware. Maybe Pentax and Samsung are sharing firmware but there may be enough internal differences in the two camera variations to require different software efforts. --- Joseph Tainter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > This time they mounted the lens correctly. I guess they are now ready for prime time ;-). What interests me is that the camera is called GX-10. It was originally labelled GX-2. The Samsung naming logic is the opposite of Pentax: with Pentax, a 10 is a better camera than a 100 and (if it existed) a 1 would be better still. In contrast, Samsung's 1 is cheaper than 10 and presumably if the mythical K1D were ever to emerge, it would be a Samsung GX-100! The Pentax naming logic is also followed by Canon for whom "single-digit" bodies are top-of-the-range, "double digit" are mid-range and "three digit" are the entry-level. Nikon's single-digit bodies are top-of-the-range but the mid-range bodies are three digit and the entry- level models two digit, just to keep things confusing! (But unlike Canon, Nikon consider themselves to have only two ranges: consumer and pro. Thus, the pro cameras are single-digit, while the consumer cameras are multiple-digit, with the higher the number meaning the better the consumer camera.) New Doug __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam?
