I see what you mean about the poles and over compensating... I think I
did the second, 1st then went back to the first one as a better choice.

And Tim pointed out "visual junk" that I couldnt even see in the lower
left . hmmm..

I like Paul's reason for liking the first better. Fascinating who
prefers which... and makes me want to revisit it - but I also don't

want to do too much adjustment in PS -- kinda cheating for this kind
of stuff.

Since the black pole in the center (surveillance camera?) is a strong
vertical element, I prefer it to be straight up and down. The second,
adjusted shot is the better of the two, but it looks like you've
over-compensated in straightening the image and have the pole leaning a
bit to the left now.

Re: Which PESO ?

2012-04-27 Thread Tim Bray
The second is immensely more pleasing to my eye. I think it’s not the
leveling, it’s having lost the visual junk in the lower left, freeing
up the smaller streetlight curves to echo the larger ones in the
center. -T

Re: Which PESO ?

2012-04-27 Thread Walt Gilbert

At the risk of redundancy, I'll echo the sentiments expressed by the others:

I like the first shot best, though the second shot certainly doesn't put
me off in any way.

(We don't have them there fancy bridges in western Kentucky, BTW.)

Re: Which PESO ?

2012-04-27 Thread George Sinos
Ann - If it comes down to a choice between the two images, I'd pick the first.

I like the first one because it shows what the bridge is "bridging,"
but I would prefer the spires to be vertically upright.

I'm curious how you straightened it. Did you just rotate and crop or
did you try to use the lens correction tools in PS or Lightroom?
Would one technique preserve more of the image than the other?

The first one..by far. I prefer the perspective curve as well as the crop.

Very soft light omm.

Re: Which PESO ?

2012-04-27 Thread Igor Roshchin

I would vote for the 3rd one.
It would be similar to the 2nd, but not over-tilted.

While I am not a stickler to having all photos leveled,
a bunch of Pisa poles are disturbing my eye.
So, the 2nd one is more pleasing, but I think you rotated it just a bit
too much. I would back off just a notch.

I like the original one.

But I don't subscribe the always level horizontals school of though.
