I suspect our NZ list representatives are first to see the new day,
and soon after those of us on the east coast of Oz, Bong sees light
about 2.5 hours after me.

It's meee!  Palmerston North is further east than Christchurch and
sunrise here was 14 minutes earlier todayhere  than it was in
Christchurch!  In summer, it probably reverses as the days become
longer the further south you go

I was wondering exactly where you were... now that I look at a map, it looks 
like nearly all of the North Island is east of Christchurch.  I should have 
known that.

I'll hold onto southernmost until someone from southern Chile or Argentina 
jumps in...

I beg to differ. The notion is pretty flexible. For that matter I wake 
up at 5:50 am every day, which does not make east-most list member, yet 
I may be east-er than quite a number of them...

rise of the sun.  I'm usually at work well before that.
