Butch,

I really like the output of the D-Lab. This lab just installed it's
second unit - a D-Lab2 (up to 12X18). They also have an MSC300 and
use it quite a bit. However, everyone in the lab prefers the D-Labs.

Yes, this lab is a quality lab. I would classify labs in three big
categories:
1) mass market - features low cost and low quality - nobody expects
much and that is what they get.
2) Mid level consumer/Pro lab - features volume printing and good
quality. Time is spent color balancing, etc. Prices are 2-3 times higher than #1
labs. Working pros that
do volume (weddings, sports teams, schools, etc). Also part timers
and serious hobbyists who seek good quality at a reasonable price.
3) Fine Art-High end - Price is very high and quality is very high.
Attention is paid on an individual image basis. Not a place where you
would get 200 prints done. Mostly handwork.

This lab is the #2 type.

Recently, I talked with the Lab owner and he has offered a free 11X14
printed of the D-Lab to any PDMLer that wants to try it. He asks that
you pay the shipping (about 4.50). If you would prefer an 8X10 I'm
sure he would do the same.

Let me know if you want to take him up on it.

BB store/ large camera 1 hr chains. When I worked for Ritz even though they
BB preached quality all their procedures, staffing levels, etc are geared
BB towards pumping the stuff out quick with just enough quality that most
BB customers wouldn't complain. It's only going to get worse as more small
BB quality oriented labs go under.

BB How do you like the output from the Agfa D-lab? We have an MSC300 Agfa
BB printer (analog) and a Noritsu 2711 (digital) at work. On straight D/P the
BB Agfa's the better machine. Does the lab that has the D-lab do good work? If
BB so, I'd like to send them a neg for an 8x10 and then compare it to what I
BB can get off the 2711. You can contact me off list if you like.
