On my M42 Prakticas my favourite normal lens was the Zeiss 2.4/35, used it about twice as much as the Zeiss 1.8/50. Both were fantastic lenses. (Recently I sold all my M42 gear except the Zeiss 1.8/80.) On my Pentaxes, I had only a Chinon 2.8/35 and the Pentax M 1.4/50 was so much better that it wasn't a question. Last week I sold the Chinon and bought a Pentax M 2/35. It feels very well on my LX, so chances are that I'll be back to the 35mm normal soon... Last time I shot with my SV I used the 35mm f2. It worked better for landscape-type photos and let me include more of the environment in my people shots. I suspect, that a 50mm may not be the standard lens for many people. I switch between the FA* 85 f:1.4 and the FA* 43 f:1.9 limited. My 50 gets very little use since getting the 43 limited.
