Re: Tamron or Sigma 18-200 vs Pentax 18-250

Yes they are. They are expensive though and you're required to disable
Pentax SR (quite obvious).

I dunno their optical performance though.

 Those are maybe better ?

Are they available with in lens IS for Pentax or Sony mounts?

Neither the Tamron nor the Sigma 18-200's are worth bothering with. If
you're going to replace the Pentax 18-250, get the Tamron 18-250, it's
 the same lens.

Re: Tamron or Sigma 18-200 vs Pentax 18-250

2010-09-03 Thread eckinator
Naah, the Pentax 18-250 is good enough by quite a tall margin given
its excessive range. My main concern was cost/risk balance and I
figured getting a new Spamron with a 5 year warranty for the price of
repairing a 32 months old out of warranty Pentax might not be a bad
trade if the Spamron was optically comparable. I'd happily give up 50
mm for that and crop a little more. I have to buy something seriously
longer at some point anyway.

From the reviews and my memory thereof it follows that surprisingly
18-250 is better than either of 18-200. All of them being rather weak in
general. I am sure you can find real plenty of (full size) images taken
with these lenses and make your own ultimate choice, Ecke. Personally,
I'd consider going DA 55-300 if you want a long zoom but that can be
outside of your bugdet. Between these three lenses - it is indeed a toss
up. If you think that the repairs will be done properly and a half a
year warranty will be attached to the repaired lens, then may be it is
the safest way to proceed.

It's not what you were asking, but +1: I'm quite happy with the
55-300 that came with my K-x.
I think you can pick them up pretty cheaply on the PF marketplace.
