RE: The Last Two Days
>I do like the shot of me with that huge lens though. But tv informs me that >I'm holding it wrong! Any camera with a weighty lens attached should be held so that the lens is placed in the palm of the left hand. This offers several benefits: 1. the weight of the cam/lens combo is taken by the left hand/arm, leaving the right hand free to adjust various settings and gently press the shutter release. 2. offers a greater 'damping' effect than holding the lens the other way - you'll be able to shoot at slower shutter speeds 3. reduces the amount of stress on the lens mount 4 and maybe other benefits as well - after all this *is* the PDML Shooting handheld with long glass, if you can, always brace against something static like a lamp post or jumbo jet or nuclear flask etc. If standing free, spread feet apart, draw elbows in to the waist/chest, hold breath at point of exposure. ...or (of course) use a lens with IS. HTH Cheers, Cotty ___/\__ || (O) | People, Places, Pastiche ||=|www.macads.co.uk/snaps _
RE: The Last Two Days
Cotty gave me some advice on holding big lenses including: "Shooting handheld with long glass, if you can, always brace against something static like a lamp post or jumbo jet or nuclear flask etc. If standing free, spread feet apart, draw elbows in to the waist/chest, hold breath at point of exposure." If you look at the other pics that frank took of me shooting the deer, (there is like 3 or 4 of them i think), you will notice that that is just what I am doing. I braced against the little lean-to thingy to steady myself and support the lens. Didn't help the pics much though, they still sucked. lol. "...or (of course) use a lens with IS." I'm close Cotty, so very, very close... tan.
