RE: PESO -- Old Friends
Just found this shot as I'm catching up on unread list mail. This shot is a gem. The opportunities to get a shots such as this are few and fleeting, and you've done well to grab this one. If this was my shot, my only regret would be that the walkers weren't advancing into the fade-out of the crossing's paint. Something along the lines of old soldiers just fading away. It's still a top shot, nonetheless. Regards, Anthony Farr -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of P. J. Re: PESO -- Old Friends
Well, your wish is my command, occasionally anyway. It does need a bit more snap, but even a little more contrast was too much no matter how much I played around with it. However a bit more micro contrast seems to have worked wonders. Anyone who hasn't heard about adjusting micro contrast wondering what I'm talking about should try it out. I've read about it in a couple of tutorials. It uses the Photoshop USM tool, set to 20% 50 pixels, 0 threshold. Sometimes these settings do exactly what you want, sometimes you have to play with them a bit. If anyone wants to see the difference just click on the picture. Doing that will cycle between the original and the new version. http://www.mindspring.com/~distilfink/PESO%20--%20oldfriendsii.html Doug Brewer wrote: Jack Davis wrote: Terrific, Peter! Re: The Old Friends
Hey - funs shot, Bob Needless (I hope) to say if I'd been there I would have taken that shot too :) ann Bob W wrote: This is a traditional, South London working-class pub close to where I live. http://www.web-options.com/30470009.jpg It amuses me that a publican has a place called Old Friends next to an Indian takeaway, serves Australian lager, has live reggae, and says England love it or leave. Or perhaps I'm misjudging him, and he just wants rid of the people who don't celebrate diversity... -- Regards, Bob -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net

Re: The Old Friends
Hmm. Bit of pincushion distortion in that, eh? The rendering is a little on the bright/glarey side, a little oversharpened too I think. Makes the writing a little difficult to read. I do like the setting, although if you didn't draw my attention to it I would not have seen the Indian takeaway or registered anything as unusual about the Fosters note. I guess that in some ways the references are a bit vague or just not familiar enough for me to react. Nice shot. Another interesting irony is the presence of satellite television antennas. The times they are a changing. RE: The Old Friends
http://www.web-options.com/30470009.jpg We Need An English Day, Not a [? what ?] keith whaley not a British Day. This is a reference to our local politics. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown (a Scot), recently floated the idea of a special day to celebrate Britishness. Many people on the racist right would prefer an English day. The rest of us think it's all a load of old bollocks. Scotland and Wales have their own parliaments, as does N. Ireland although it's not operating at the moment. England does not. Many Little Englanders don't like this, and don't like Scottish MPs in Westminster (the UK parliament) having a say over specifically English affairs when the same does not apply vice versa. This is called The West Lothian Question. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Lothian_Question They also don't like the UK being run by what looks to them like a Scottish mafia. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4611682.stm -- Cheers, Bob -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
