Nielsen Bainbridge sells 8-ply museum matts in precut sizes. It's a nice thick matt with backboard in the standard cuts (like 11x14 in 16x20, etc). Unless you have a good matt cutter and can deal with cutting your own from full board stock, it runs less money to buy pre- cuts. I have been standardizing on them for a bit. The local University Art shop generally has them at 40% off, or about $14 apiece.
