However; at the rate of business here it takes a sizable order to justify shipping all the way out here to Oregon and I still have tons of film in the fridge/freezer yet to use up - RG 25, RG100, TMaxCN about a dozen assorted rolls of 120. Re: Why Kodak Gold Max is evil?
I was pleasantly surprised by Portra 800 NC this summer -- I used it to shoot a wedding ceremony where flash wasn't allowed under VERY dim tungsten lighting. I didn't have very high hopes for them turning out well, as the conditions were just awful, but since I was already using 160NC for everything else, I decided to take a chance on it. When the prints came back, they looked great -- color reproduction was warm, but not excessively so (thanks to people who printed it), but skin tones looked great, grain was tight and there was plenty of detail in her blinding white dress and his black tux. I was especially thrilled because this was a family wedding, and if you screw things up for family, you'll never hear the end of it. Lon W wrote: So Max has evolved to cover Kodak mistakes. Does current generation Max still lag, in anyone's opinion, behind Superia? Well, I'm a Kodak RG Kinda Guy but when I need 800asa color neg I get the Fuji. If I had access to the newer Supra/Portra 800 I suspect I would find one or both of them more to my liking, tho. What pisses me off alot is that Kodak nixed first the Royal Gold 25 and then the 100 - The 200 has its uses when you can use just a tad more speed, like to extend your flash range or something, but I rarely use 400 in color print - I'll go to the Fuji 800 for the extra stop of shutter speed it allows. It is also quite a lot cheaper in the 4-packs - something around $11-$12 - Kodak doesn't bulk pack the RG at the consumer outlets. m42 -(Yellow Box)- Bill - Bill D.
