I'm still running the original Freecell on Windows 10. All it needs is cards.dll driver and I have copied this on each time I got a new PC. It was me, initially.. but I got a lot of support for not worrying about it.. that is, I will continue with win 7 pro. If things get dicey, I wouldn't do an upgrade to my current desktop, I'd get another computer with Win 10 installed . Hopefully, I can avoid it for a long time.. I'm only connected through cable to the internet, have no smart phone and no wifi, email set to plain text, etc.. You may consider giving a try first to Wine (and Wine-tricks) before/instead of VM solution. Or, try both before deciding. You can then compare their performance with each other.
